Leslie Alexander

Leslie Alexander is a Professor at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, Bryn Mawr College and Adjunct Professor of Social Work in Psychiatry/University of Pennsylvania Medical School. Her work on the alliance began with Lester Luborsky, doing research with his Helping Alliance Questionnaire in a university outpatient clinic. She then secured a small grant from National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to establish the psychometric properties of the HAq-II and the WAI in a prospective study of the alliance between clients with SMI and their case managers during the client's first nine months in ICM. Using this same data set, she is completing a qualitative analysis of open-ended responses of case managers about several aspects of their relationship with these clients over time. She has also published a pilot study, using the WAI, adapted for use with children with chronic physical illnesses, their parents, their physicians, and their nurses in a hospital setting.
